And Ray Lamont- dry as something dug from Tutankhamun's tomb and nowhere near as interesting.

Remember Allan Mason and Gary Spalding vaguely. Had Don Wilson as a CO myself, Hopscotch, and I found him to be very nice. He was the only CO who went out of his way to invite me witnessing with him, me, a lowly sister who wasn't pioneering or married.
I also remember Harold Hiscox- met him once in a dinner group, and saw him give talks on every DC. Pompous guy.

Omg really? His daughter studied with me. He was in my old cong. She shuns me now after 15 years of friendship, and I never even said anything apostate to her, she just went off gossip n by I was upset at bad treatment by jws n wouldn't study with her again. You might know her.

First Post - Introduction
by Syme inthis is my first post on jwn, and i would like to take a few lines to introduce myself.. i currently am still in the organization, though my conviction in the last 1-2 years is more or less agnostic/atheist (closer to atheist).
i am an ex-elder and mts graduate, having served in another 3 congregations, apart from my home one.. the reason for the above-mentioned conviction shift has to do with science and rational, logical thinking generally, and with the grand theory of evolution, specifically.
it took me long, endless sessions of hard reading and study of serious scientific literature (plus cross-matching all the quotes and claims in jw evolution-related literature), to finally make the shift from utterly firm religious belief to doubt, and then to lack of religious faith.

Welcome Syme! Interesting u mention similarity with communist regimes. Years of studying communist regimes did for me similar to what studying science did for you. I was drawn to reading about totalitarian regimes, because my subconscious was trying to tell me something...
Anyhoo, you'll like it here. There are many here like u who have taken the scientific path and will understand you. I for my part look forward to hearing your stories.

What always struck me was how until the last few years jw women weren't even supposed to have a job. They were supposed to be housewives or something while the jw man was supposed to have a job. That never sat right with me because I was raised by my non jw parents to get educated and financially independent, and mum was always the main earner with the education and career for most of my life while dad took care of most of the domestic things. This expectation that as a jw woman you were not supposed to work once married because that would be materialistic struck me as sexist n stupid, and I never wanted my non jw parents to visit a meeting because I knew they'd be appalled at the 1940's attitude. My father's respect for women was not to be found among most of the jw men, especially the born ins.
It always used to pip me when during some co visit or public talk when the speaker was praising the cong how he would talk about how clever the men are with their work and speaking abilities and the sisters...how good they are at making cakes. That's all women were to many of these guys, someone to cook and keep the house clean and their suits dry cleaned.
As for marriage, most of the young sisters who got married got their men by being outright skanky. And I found the born in men so shallow and only go for the airhead good looking girls. Plain ones with talents and education like me never got looked at. An ms even told me I'd find it hard to get married because I am educated, intelligent, strong willed and open with my strong opinions. He was right, jw men were losers, and the ones who did look at me were my father's age.

WTS overboard w/suggested presentation
by doinmypart inthe nov 2013 km contains an article that is ridiculous in its level of minutae.. they focus on the word "because".
they tell jws to use the word "because" when explaining why they're at the homeowner's door.
writing department, you wrote an article on the use of the word "because"?

"Fantastic intro! Truth in action!
I think that kind of honesty would win you a few extra minutes with the, by then, gape-mouthed householder."
OMG I sooooooooo should reactivate just to do that.

What did your personal big AHA moments look like when you saw through a LIE or suddenly understood a TRUTH?
by Fernando in"what is an aha moment?
it's a moment of clarity, a defining moment where you gain real wisdom - wisdom you can use to change your life.".

Mine was more the thousand little cuts that bled me to death, with a few big AHAs that bled the JW completely out of me. A couple stick in my mind, like the time in 2012 I visited the local cemetery and looked at the old graves (100-130 years old; my area is not very old in the scheme of civilisation) and I noticed that many of the old graves were those of children, teenagers and young adults. Comparing to the new graves who were mostly of people in their 70s-90s, I thought, "How could the world be worse to live in than ever before when people are living longer than ever before? How can it really be the last days?"
Another time, by the time I was having doubts, in late 2012, I bought a King James Bible and started reading it to get another perspective, and suddenly it hit me that Jesus' actual message was far different and far simpler to what the WT says it was. I had an incredible moment of revelation.
The next big one was when the Inquisition arrived at my house and grilled me for ages about so-called 'apostate' stuff I put on Facebook. Oh boy the thought police hammering me made me realise they had something to hide.
